Family Harmony

Family Harmony, one of the blessings which many people seek in their family. I will never forget this night when I actually talk to my dad about family harmony. I was led by the Holy Spirit to just talk to my dad about changing the atmosphere of the family and it wasn't easy at the start because I don't usually talk to my father this stuff. I guess God wanted us to change the way we were living.

I talked to him about lots of things and I told him personally that I wanted to honour him and be obedient to him. I was glad that I could talk to my father about what was God's plan for me as well as the issues in my life. I thank God that my relationship with my dad has been drawn closer and we both agreed that we to do something to save our relatives who has not come to know the Lord yet. I believe God is going to change the lives of my family as well as the people around us.

Anyways, I learnt much about family harmony from Pastor Richard today. I guess he did put in a great effort in connecting with the youths through his message. There are 3 points that we must look into to achieve family harmony.

1. Wives & Husbands
- What must they do to receive the blessing of family harmony?They must switch on their mind to submit & love.
For the wives, it is said in Col 3:18 'wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.'
Indeed, submission is something that comes from the God and you just have to trust in God for this. For it is really not by your might nor by your power, but by His spirit there you are able to do it.
For the husbands, it is said in Col 3:19 'Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.'
It is hard for you to love your wife without experiencing the love of God. We need to have sacrificial love towards them. So let us love our wives just as Christ love the church.

Pastor said there were 3 basic reasons why men fail to love
a)Our Passivity at Home
-The family look upon the husband as the decision maker as well as the head of the family. Hence it is the husband's role to listen to the family, make decisions and make sure that it is done.
b)Our Private Caves
- Sometimes in the heat of a quarrel, men might just retreat into their so-called 'private caves' as they just can't be bothered with the problem or they want to feign ignorance. That shouldn't be the case, for ignorance is not a bliss.
c)Our Insensitivity
-It's quite straight forward, husbands can be insensitive to their wives sometimes. It can be insensitivity towards problems or towards communication in their love languages.
I believe that there is much to learn from this so that when that day comes, by faith I will know how to love my future partner. Besides that, I know that the Holy Spirit will always be there to guide me even through my marriage.

2.Children & Parents
- Many of us might be able to relate to this point better. Parents and children must turn on their emotions to obey and encourage.
As children, we have to discipline ourselves for in Col 3:20 it says ' Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord'. Hence, let us obey our parents in everything except for things which involve sins and things which displeases the Lord. For we cannot bring hope to the generations to come if we are disobedient to our parents. We are accountable to our parents for they are the guardians of the house.
As for parents, the bible specifically focuses on the fathers. In the following verse in Col 3:21, it is written 'Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discourage.'
Do not embitter your children, in other words it means do provoke your children to anger.
There are 4 things which will provoke children to anger.
A. Living in the past
-Parents should not keep using the past as an example or their children will get irritated by them.
B. Over-controlling
-Parents do need to use the rod at times, but we should not over-do it.
C. Under-controlling
-Parents should not be too easy on their children or they will lack discipline. In other words, they become 'spoilt brats'.
D. Living an inconsistent life
-Parents should ask themselves what are they showing to their children through their actions, for their children will pick up everything they learn. This means that their children will pick up their characteristics as well as personality. So do bear in mind that you reap what you sow.

3. Families & God
God will indeed act on His will to remember and to restore. For God is committed to bless your family with harmony by turning the hearts of the
A. Families to God, the Father
B. Fathers to the children
C. Children to the Fathers.

From this 3 main points, it is easy to conclude that for us to receive the blessing of family harmony, it is essential for us to have God in our lives, in our families. Now then, would you invite God into your family and your life as of today?

Leadership

God spoke to me about leadership through Timothy today. In fact, God has been speaking to me about being a leader on several occasions. I was actually really tired today as I did not have enough sleep the day before. However, God gave me the energy I needed to listen to what He has to say to me. This are the 3 points that God showed me in today's cell time:

1. We are called to be a leader.
- God constantly reminds us that we are called to be leaders. In Matthew 28:18 -20, Jesus says
"...All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."

Jesus is very precise in his words. Every christian is called to be leaders. As leaders for God, our role is to lead the people and train them to be disciple makers so that the people will be able to take our roles and lead others and the generations to come.

God also reminded me that we cannot be a leader for Him without His spirit. The fruit of the spirit as mentioned in Gal 5:22-23, is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Therefore, let us teach our disciples the word of God by the spirit. Live by the spirit!

2. Everyone can be a leader
- Yes, everyone can be a leader. Regardless of your background, God can make you a leader. In fact, he wants us to be leaders as mentioned in Matthew 28:18-20. If we take a close look in Matthew 28:17, it says 'When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.'

Some doubted in Jesus, but what did Jesus do? He did not condemn them by saying ‘You of little faith, why do you doubt me?’ Instead he sends them to disciple the nations. It just shows how much Jesus loves and trusts his disciples even though they doubted him. How much more will God love and trust us to be His leader. Hence, let us be leaders for God by faith.

On a side note, if we were to read further on in the book of Acts, you would see a remarkable change in the behaviour of the 12 disciples. They stood out as bold, confident figures instead of the dull personality they once had. You would be surprise to see that the incredible advance of the early church was led by the 2 disciples with the thickest heads of all, John and Peter. Jesus’ patience in them has indeed been worthwhile.

3. Be prepared as a leader- God reminded me to be prepared in all circumstances, be it being a leader. Today, I was given an opportunity to lead worship but I came unprepared physically as well as mentally. In the midst of leading, I just got lost in the song and I did not grasp hold of the powerful lyrics. I was simply tired but God taught me the meaning of being prepared. There will lots of challenges that I will face in being a leader. God reminded me to be alert always and to come prepared.

Ultimately, sticking to God's WEB requires perseverance, faith and discipline. Would you stick to God's WEB all your life?

Interesting enough, I was reminded of this acronym Timothy thought me a few weeks back. So i will just briefly go through what I have learnt from his sharing.
How do we LAUGH for God then? There are 3 things we need to do, G.S.T:
1)Go
We have to first go and act on what God has commission us to do
2)Seasons
We experience seasonal changes of growth after listening to God's primary plan for us and acting upon it.
3)Testing
We will face testing and challenges that will help built our inner man and to grow stronger in God.


By paying our GST, we will certainly LAUGH for God.

Being a Christ-ian

I was reading the book of Luke during my QT with God and He gave me a few questions to ponder about. In addition, God spoke to me about money issues as well as the cost of being a disciple.
These are the questions that I asked myself during my QT:
1. What does it mean to pray 'in Jesus' name'?
-From what I learnt from Jeremiah, when we pray in Jesus name, we invoke the name of Jesus. For Jesus has been given the name above all other names, that at His name, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
2. How can your life have the power and authority of Jesus behind it?
-In order to have the power and authority, we need to walk right with God and stay close to Him. It grows over time as we walk with Him. We do have some form of power and authority as we are sons of, but as we practise and walk close to Him,it will grow as we understand our position.
Thank God for Jeremiah for guiding me with the questions.
As I mentioned earlier, God spoke to me about issues concerning money as well as the cost of being a disciple for God.
So what is God reminding me about regarding the issues with money?

I was reading the parable of the rich fool in the book of Luke and I just felt God asking me to slow down and to see what He is reminding of from this parable.
As seen from Luke 12:16-21,
"The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. 17He thought to himself, 'What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.'
18"Then he said, 'This is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19And I'll say to myself, "You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry." '
20"But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'
21"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."


From the parable, it can be seen that the rich man's money did him absolutely no good the night of his death. I was reminded not to put my faith in money to secure my future.

As I was reading further on, I realised that God was actually reminding me not to worry about the things in life but to seek first his kingdom and righteousness.
In Luke 12:30-31, it says ‘For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father know that you need them. But seek first his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well.

God also spoke to me about the cost of being His disciple but I can’t exactly explain it as I’m not very sure about it. I was a little confused with Luke 14:26 but after some clarification, basically what the verse means is that the old is gone, the new has come.We're no longer ours but God's as we're purchased by God's precious blood.The life we live should be for God and no longer for ourselves.

Running After You

This week was a refreshing week for me to start. I have just started to prepare myself for the standard chartered 10 km run by jogging around the field at the back of my neighbourhood. While I was jogging, I kept proclaiming in my heart that I was running with the freedom that God has given to me. I thought about the things He has done for me throughout this year and I was really grateful that He had stood with me all the days of my life. I was praying in my heart, saying ‘God, give me a heart that is after You, that I am always running after You.’ The joy of my heart is to see the people come in unity to praise His Holy name. And so I have dedicated myself to run a 100km for God for this one month.

God,let me run with the winners. Let me run the race that You have marked out for me with hope,faith and perseverance.

Inner Peace

Yesterday,I had HT 'shadow' duty for the first time. Hence I arrived in church around 11 50 to make sure I would not be late. While I was in church, I took a sit among some of the chairs outside max pavilion to watch the Chinese service. Now to think of it, I actually do enjoy listening to Chinese but I just dislike learning Chinese at a pace which I’m not comfortable in.

Anyways, Pastor Melvin was preaching about inner peace in service today. I always enjoy listening to Pastor Melvin humorous way of teaching the word of God for us and I felt that God spoke a lot to me through his message today. I will process what I have learnt from him and hopefully it will be an encouragement to you. Especially those who are taking their exams soon or those who have taken their exams but worry about their results.

The only way of getting inner peace in our heart is to experience God’s peace. So how can we enjoy God’s peace? There are 3 main points: Pray, Ponder, Practice.

The first thing we need to do is Pray which represents the hope of our heart.
In Philippians 4:6-7, it is written ‘do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.'
This was one of the very first verses that I memorised with my cell in the beginning of this year.
There are 4 things we need to include when we pray:
a)Everything
When we pray, we pray not only of the big things but also of the small things. Pray about everything, for everything that you speak to God will connect you with Him. It will help sensitise our hearts to God
b)Thanksgiving
When we pray, let us pray everything with thanksgiving, for it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, ‘give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.’
c)Trusting
When we pray, we have to trust in God for the peace and the answer. In Isaiah 26:3, it says 'You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in You.'
d)Releasing
When we pray, let us release our problems to the Lord and trust that He will solve it. It is only then, you will receive a great sense of peace that transcends all understanding.

The second point is Ponder which represents the mastery of our mind.
'Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.' Phil 4:8
We have to renew our minds and ponder about the positive things. It is said in 2 Cor 10:5 that we have devine power to demolish strongholds. Hence, let us cut off every negative thought so that God's peace can flow in our hearts.

The last point is Practice which represents the working of our will.
'Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.' Phil 4:9
We have to put God's word into practice even though it might seem hard for us to do.
In James 1:22 says, 'Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.'
Pastor said it was like following Nike's slogan, 'Just Do It'. Indeed, we just have to put God's word into practice so that the God of peace will be with you.

God says to you today not to worry anymore, for He is always with you. Trust in Him and His peace will be with you .

Jesus, You are the Lord of my life. You gave up Your life for me though I was undeserving, it's no longer I, but Christ in me.

I could not have wrote this song without God. There were plenty of verses which I could have thrown in but I did not want to offer a song which was meaningless or just another 'ordinary' song to God. I want to offer God my best. This song expresses how I feel for the Lord of my life, indeed, I will walk with Him to the ends of the earth. It is by faith that I believe in the one called Saviour. Lord, take all of me, everything that I have is all yours, I want to give You my very best. It takes a lot of faith and courage to mean what i have say and say what i mean. You gave Your one and only Son though we were undeserving. By your grace and mercy, we are redeemed. God, You are the King of all...

Yeah, the feeling of spending time just with my heavenly Father was absolutely great and refreshing. I shall proceed on with my reading on 1 Peter tonight and get ready for HT duty.

So what is the desire of our Father in heaven?
To spend time with us and communicate with us. When there is communication with God, we are able to hear God. Hence there are 3 things we can do.
1)Hearing God for yourself
-He tutors you to live skillfully
2)Hearing God for each other
-He uses us to build up one another
3)Hearing God for the lost
-He uses us to find the lost so that we can welcome them home.

This song is rather fast pace and the lyrics are sort of like a declaration saying what His courts means to me and what I would do in His courts. It doesn't really matter whether it's a fast or slow song as long as it is a form of worship onto God. Thank the Lord for this song, You provided everything I ever written.

I realised that my melody and song were largely influenced based on the song 'Home' written by Marty Sampson. He writes really good songs, hopefully some day I would get to meet him and learn more about song writing as well as worship leading from him.

Putting that aside, I hope that as I grow deeper in God, He will give me my own style of writing songs. Hopefully the songs I have written will indeed be a blessing to others. All the glory to God for He is my main source of inspiration.

Recently my leader posted a question to us, 'who is Jesus to me?'
I gave it a deep thought and I knew the answer. God is the Lord of all, He is the Lord of everything in my life. But do I really mean what I say?

The supremacy of Christ is shown in Col 1:15-18
15He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

Peter's response to who Christ was to him is shown in Matthew 16:15-16
"But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"
Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."


If we know who Christ is in our lives, then the next question we should ask is:
How are we presenting Christ in our lives? Is it by intentional acts?
Jesus said in Matt 5:13-16 that we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world. He adds on by saying "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." So are we shining our light intentionally in this dark world? We can do many things and have the assumption that we are shining our light brightly before the people around us. But in reality, they are still facing their backs to our light, not knowing the deeds we have done.

I thank God that He is a God who always teaches us a lesson. This time, He shows me that we have to be intentional in our actions so that the people around us may catch this glimpse of light and they may turn their way back to this path of light.
Indeed, the main idea for this blog was that I hope it would be a light that shines for God, giving glory to the Most High with songs and devotions.

Discipline

The Lord just spoke to me about discipline today. I received my exam results a week ago, were pretty alright I guess, except for F&B and POM. I got a grade C for both subjects and that pulled my overall GPA down. Ok to be honest, I’m not satisfied with the results.

Well I could have come up with many lousy excuses such as:
a) The 2 papers were on the same day. I did NOT enough time to study as well as enough sleep.
b) They were both heavy topics. A lot of content to memorise and SO I blanked out
c) I was SO PRESSURED by the people who left early, so I was forced to leave the room too out of my OWN WILL.

In my own human nature, this was some of the many lousy excuses I would have come up with. But God is a God who always teaches us a lesson out of all this, so I took time to reflect on what God was trying to teach me. The answer He gave was DISCIPLINE.

I had a meaningful chat with my aunt this afternoon in her house. It was through this conversation that God spoke to me about discipline.
The conversation began with her asking me how I did for my exams. When I had given her my results, she asked whether I could have done better. In quick fashion, I said “yes, I could have BUT, the 2 papers were on the same day. I did NOT enough time to study as well as enough sleep. They were both heavy topics. A lot of content to memorise and SO I blanked out. I was SO PRESSURED by the people who left early, so I was forced to leave the room too out of my OWN WILL.”
Well, that wasn’t really smart of me. After saying all that, I felt as if I have given some of the model excuses one would give.

My aunt being the knowledgeable one helped me to understand a few things.
1) Not giving yourself enough rest will definitely affect your performance in the exams.
2) As we go higher up in education, the going gets tough especially when you reach University.
3) By succumbing to peer pressure, this shows how weak and vulnerable we can be when we are not alert. Therefore, think before you act. I was reminded of how King Herod succumbed to peer pressure and ordered John's execution.

So what is God saying to me then?
1) God reminds me that “Your body is My temple, therefore treat it with care and honour Me with your body. Be disciplined.”
2) God says, “I’m preparing you for the challenges ahead, be disciplined.”
3) God blessed me with the verse Proverbs 1:7
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline."

Besides that, it is always 100% man, 100% God. We have to put in our 100% effort first before God can put His 100%.
In all, God wants us to be disciplined, He does not want us to be fools who despises wisdom and discipline.
“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.” Proverbs 12:1

I have been a fool but God has changed all that. No more “buts” or doubts for me for I put my faith in the One who helps me through it all. We bless Your holy name.

Our God is truly faithful to us all the time and His love never fails. How many times have we taken His love for granted?
There may be times when we feel that God isn't there for us or we have the impression that He does not love us anymore.
However, that is not true for God has always been there for us. The problem lies with the fact that we did not seek Him with the right heart.
It is written in proverbs 8:17
"I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me."

as well as in Jeremiah 29:13
"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

Let our hearts be set right before God so that when we truly seek Him with the right heart, we will surely find Him. For God has always love us and will never foresake us.

God gave me the inspiration to write this song, uniquely through my friend's song. As I was reading the lyrics of her song, I was touched by the Holy Spirit. I know truly that God, You will never fail me. I just thank God for always reminding me that the reason we are able to write all the songs we ever written is because of Him.

Our Heart's Condition

Paradise band came to our church today to lead worship. They were here for the past 4 days in the modern levites conference and it was such a blessing for them to be here to teach us how to be a levite for God. I learnt a lot from the conference, and felt that it was time to reflect on my walk with Jesus.
a) Do I have a heart of a true worshipper?
b) Do I worship the Lord in spirit and in truth?

I just felt the presence of God during free worship and it was so powerful that I felt my heart crying out to God. In the process of it, I broke down and the Lord just ministered to me with His love. I was really ministered by paradise's song ‘Over and over’.Jesus, let Your people declare that they are falling in love with You over and over again.

After this conference,some how I know that deep down inside me I have changed. I know my destiny and my future more than ever and I just want to commit everything into His hands. I surrender all my plans to Him.
This are some of the things God has spoken to me:

a) Being a levite for God
- Something just spurred in my decision to make it a goal to join the youth band to serve God. It's such a joy that God has created music to be used to worship Him. Be it singing or playing an instrument to God, He has reminded me that in order to have the heart of a true worshipper, we have to worship Him in spirit and in truth. It will not be an easy road, but with God by my side, I believe that by faith I will be able to serve the church in this area. To me, the youth band seems very much like a family and I thank God for giving me an opportunity to know most of them.

b)Running the race that God has marked out for me

- For the past few weeks, my church has been preaching about the Running with the winners series and God just taught me more about how I can use these hands of mine to serve Him. Heard from Jeremiah that our pastors are preaching this series based on a book he read, I guess I will be borrowing the book from him after I finish 'the power of a praying teen', 'faith the link to God's power' and one other book that i'm currently reading.

c) Rise up as a leader
-This might not have been on my mind 2 years back, but God is an amazing God and He has special plans for each one of us. God has constantly renewed my mind so that my eyes are focused on the very focus, which is Jesus. For He has called us to rise up as leaders and disciple makers to disciple the nations, let our light shine before men intentionally so that they may see our good deeds and praise our Father in heaven.

Although this year is the Year of Victory, I have to constantly remind myself that the Year of Sabbath has not taken place yet and I still have to claim the victory that Christ has set before me.I have indeed been very blessed by God and I know God wants to bless you too. It is God's desire to bless you, however it all boils down to this question: 'Would you let him bless you?'
